Eurecat presents the Fatigue4Light project in the IDDRG Conference
Partners from Eurecat presented the Fatigue4Light project during the 42nd International Deep Drawing Research Group Conference (IDDRG) taking place from 19th – 22nd of June 2023 in Luleå, Sweden.
During the conference, Sergi Parareda, project partner and researcher at the Metallic and Ceramic Materials Unit of Eurecat, presented the work titled “Fracture toughness to assess the effect of trimming on the fatigue behaviour of high-strength steels for chassis parts”, which is based on Fatigue4Light project research and some of the main results achieved.
This work presents a material selection strategy for the applicability of hight-strength steels in chassis parts of electrical vehicles. The proposed approach allows the evaluation of the key parameters of the chassis in a simple way. The results for different complex-phase and dual-phase steels, presented in this work, show a good agreement between the EWF and the fatigue notch factor. The method presented could help apply high-strength steel to chassis parts, as designers will have a tool to focus the expensive fatigue tests on the best material candidates.
The work presented was also contributed by David Frómeta and Daniel Casellas, from Eurecat, David Gustafsson and Erik Olsson, project partners from the Luleå University of Technology, and Remi Munier, project partner from ArcelorMittal.
The IDDRG Conference was founded as an organisation of national groups devoted to the study of sheet metal forming including forming processes, materials, formability issues, tooling, tribology and many other interesting aspects of sheet metal forming research and industrial practices. The conference ais to provide a rich environment for knowledge development, discussions and interactions.
